Members of parliament use these questions to ask for detailed information on government activity. The minister’s answer to the question is published in Hansard for everyone to read (just like the response to your question is published on this website!).
The other type of question that can be asked in the Australian Parliament is Questions without Notice. These are oral questions that are asked and answered in Question Time. More information about questions can be found here.
