What does the Prime Minister do when he is not in Canberra?

Thanks for your question, Lily.

When Parliament is not meeting, the Prime Minister and members of parliament return to and work in their electorates.

The Prime Minster also uses this time to carry out their other responsibilities. For example, the Prime Minister might:

  • travel around Australia to talk to people about the issues that concern them
  • work with others ministers on government policy ideas
  • speak to the media about government plans
  • represent the nation overseas
  • meet with other world leaders.
